Prerequisite:  Students need to be able to sing in tune. Students don’t need to be able to read music or have prior singing experience.

Audition Required?: New students will be assessed the first day of class in order to place them in the appropriate section. If a student struggles to stay in tune at the assessment, she may be asked to consider taking private voice lessons and re-audition for Clara Bella in the future.

Class Description:
Joining choir is a great way for students to learn discipline, teamwork, critical thinking, confidence, creativity, as well as way to make some potentially life-long friends! Clara Bella students will also learn proper vocal technique (breathing, posture, tone, diction, pitch) by participating in a variety of fun, energizing, and educational vocal warm-ups. Students will also learn to make music “come alive” by learning about dynamics, musicality, and expression. When time allows, students will also be taught basics of reading music and sight reading.

Clara Bella students will learn and memorize 3 – 5 songs in 2 – 4 part harmony in a variety of styles and languages, and will perform the songs at one to four concerts per semester. Students will be provided demo audio files and sheet music to help them learn the music. Students should take good care of their music, only making notes in PENCIL. Damaged or lost music will result in a $5 charge per lost piece. Audio files will be under the “Media” tab on the website.

Supplies Needed and other related costs:
Students must bring the following to class: Pencil, folder to organize and protect their music, and water bottle. Students are also responsible to provide the following attire for concert:

Christmas Concert: Dressy and modest all-black attire with a splash of bright red (no burgundy) – scarf, jewelry, headband, belt, camisole, etc). Skirts and pants with blouses or dresses are all fine. Skirts/dresses must be no shorter than 1″ above the knee. No skin below the waist should be showing, so black nylons, tights or socks should be worn. No leggings. No shoulders or backs should be showing, so short sleeve or longer is preferred, although sleeveless is fine as long as a scarf or cardigan thoroughly covers the shoulders and back. Flat shoes are preferred, however, heels 1″ or lower are allowed. Attire with sparkles or sequences are fine as long as everything is black.

Spring Concert: See above, but the splash of color is bright blue, green, or turquoise. No pastels.

Prerequisite:  Students need to be able to sing in tune. Students don’t need to be able to read music or have prior singing experience.

Audition Required?:  Members of Concordia MUST have gone through the voice change that typically occurs between 6th & 9th grade. (Generally speaking, parents will notice a significant deepening of their son’s voice when the change happens. The change usually occurs over a period of several weeks/months, but it can happen “overnight.” Voice changing is typically accompanied by voice “cracking.”) New students will be assessed the first day of class in order to place them in the appropriate section. If a student struggles to stay in tune at the assessment, he may be asked to consider taking private voice lessons and wait to join Concordia until he can successfully sing in-tune. If the student’s voice has not thoroughly changed to meet the demands of the range of Concordia’s music, he will be encouraged to join the “Cantabile” choir. Students who register for “Concordia” but are not fully prepared for the class, will be issued a full refund.

Students will also learn to make music “come alive” by learning about dynamics, musicality, and expression.
