K-6 Drama | Grades K-6
Come explore the world of acting through various theater games, acting exercises, improvisation activities, skits, and scene work! These activities will tap into your creative side, while developing skills such as focus, listening, teamwork, imagination, vocal projection and articulation, creating a believable character, and building self confidence and stage presence. This is all done in a fun, positive, and encouraging Christian environment. We will also have a presentation of skills learned during our last class time so students can gain some performance experience. Homework for this class would include memorizing lines and writing about your character. You also might need to find or make a simple costume or prop for the performance.

Time: Wednesdays from 10:45-12:00 or 2:15-3:30pm
Homework: 1 hour per week (memorizing lines and finding or making a costume)
Materials: Students should bring: a folder, writing utensils, and a highlighter.
Cost: $165 (Price increases after January 6)

Julie Nelson has always had a love for the arts. She has spent many years acting, dancing, and singing, and majored in Theater at Mankato State University. She is currently teaching Theater at South Heights Christian Classes (since 2011), In the Company of Kids Performing Arts Center (since 2010), and in 2013 started her own Homeschool Theater Company, “Acting With Character” which now offers classes and performance opportunities at TCHA and South Heights. Julie also teaches classes for children and adults with special needs, along with private acting classes, and has developed and taught an intergenerational Theater program for the elders and preschoolers at Ebenezer Care Center. Julie has acted, written, and directed many dramas and plays for various churches, Sunday School and homeschool co-ops. She is enthusiastic about sharing her love for theater with all her students and helping them explore their creativity and develop their unique talents. She is married and has four boys whom she homeschooled for eleven years.

TCHA has enlisted the services of Active Network for our online registration. If you have run any charitable marathons you are probably familiar with Active Network. They have expanded beyond marathon registration to camps and classes, which is the specific service we use.
When you click any type of “register” button on the TCHA website, you will be redirected to our page within the Active Network. Here will find a list of our current classes. Use the filters in the left column to find a specific type of class, grade level, what time a class meets or a particular tutor. You can register one child or multiple children in multiple classes; either way, you will have one convenient and secure check out process with options to pay in full or make a partial payment.
