BRIGHT STAR Synopsis:

Inspired by a real event and featuring the Tony®-nominated score by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, Broadway’s BRIGHT STAR tells a sweeping tale of love and redemption set against the rich backdrop of the American South in the 1920s and ’40s. When literary editor Alice Murphy meets a young soldier just home from World War II, he awakens her longing for the child she once lost. Haunted by their unique connection, Alice sets out on a journey to understand her past – and what she finds has the power to transform both of their lives.  An uplifting theatrical journey that holds you tight in its grasp, BRIGHT STAR is as refreshingly genuine as it is daringly hopeful.

Why we chose this musical?

The musical BRIGHT STAR is a tale full of the messiness and beauty of life. It shows us the humanity in us all that surfaces in mistakes made, dreams sought after, and longing to be in community and relationship with others. Though there are choices made by characters in this show that we wouldn’t necessarily agree with or condone, we felt this was a chance for us to explore the theme of redemption on the stage. Ultimately, we are thankful for Christ’s redemption He freely gives us. We can walk through this life knowing that through the highs and lows, the uncertainty and questions, He is our Anchor, Redeemer, and only Savior!  Isaiah 44:22   ~Michaela
