Ballet/Jazz/Lyrical Combo |  7th-12th grade

This is an open level class that will move at a faster pace for the more mature student. Students will learn more difficult ballet positions and will have more emphasis on stage presence.

In jazz, students will be introduced to more advanced steps, and will get an introduction to lyrical dance. Students will perform both ballet and jazz in the recital, with an option to perform in lyrical as well.

While this is not a worship dance class, students will learn how we can glorify God through dance in a modest way, and will use Christian, classical music, and classical crossover (e.g. The Piano Guys) music during class and the recital.

Students should wear comfortable, form fitting attire, and pink leather ballet shoes (black for boys). Students will need to have jazz shoes (color TBD for the recital) and there may be an additional costume fee under $20.

Mary Coleman might say that ballet was her first true love. She has taught many forms of dance (including ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, and Zumba®), and all ages, 3 years and older. She has classic French ballet and pointe training, as well as instruction in jazz, lyrical, tap, danceline, modern, and even hip hop. Her teaching style strongly emphasizes solid technique, but also acknowledges the need for emotion to become a well-rounded dancer. She has always envisioned Heaven as including dance, and she firmly believes in Psalm 149:3, “Let them praise His name with dancing.”
