Class Vocal 1 | Grades 6-12th
If you’re interested in taking your voice to the next level, consider taking Class Voice 1 – a unique, engaging, and fun environment where students will receive individual and group instruction, as well as encouragement and feedback from fellow students! (Early on, students will be coached on how to give constructive feedback that is helpful to the students’ success as singers and performers). Throughout the semester, students will learn a group song and two songs of their choice. Repertoire chosen by the students will be selected from a lengthy list provided by the tutor – including classical, folk, traditional, and musical theater selections. In class, students will participate in singing exercises and activities to help them learn the following:
o How to take care of their voice (avoiding losing one’s voice & becoming hoarse)
o How to sing in one’s natural range with ease and beauty
o Proper alignment (posture)
o Proper breathing
o Musicality (including phrasing)
o Proper diction
Students will be provided accompaniment tracks to practice with. The semester will conclude with a mini-recital the last day of class. Parents and siblings are welcome to attend!

Jen Perdue is an experienced and licensed music teacher with a bachelor’s degree in K–12 music education from the University of Northwestern – St. Paul. Jen’s passion for the arts started young. As a child, she was involved in church music productions. In high school and college she participated in choir, band, orchestra, dance, musical theater, and opera productions and also performed and led worship in several churches. After college, Jen became the assistant worship leader at Berean Baptist Church in Burnsville. There she worked with the adult Sanctuary Choir, Contemporary Worship Choir, and Youth Choir as well as led worship. Jen left her position at Berean in 2011 to expand her private music studio and to pursue other musical opportunities, such as founding TCHA in 2013 and starting the Clara Bella girls’ choir. As a former homeschooler herself, Jen is thrilled that homeschoolers today are given arts opportunities that weren’t available to her when she was in school. Jen lives in Burnsville with her wonderful husband, Chris, and their adorable and energetic daughter Adalynn (Addie). In her spare time, Jen loves singing Disney and Broadway tunes around the house at the top of her lungs, gardening, working on house projects, and spending time with family and friends.

TCHA has enlisted the services of Active Network for our online registration. If you have run any charitable marathons you are probably familiar with Active Network. They have expanded beyond marathon registration to camps and classes, which is the specific service we use.
When you click any type of “register” button on the TCHA website, you will be redirected to our page within the Active Network. Here will find a list of our current classes. Use the filters in the left column to find a specific type of class, grade level, what time a class meets or a particular tutor. You can register one child or multiple children in multiple classes; either way, you will have one convenient and secure check out process with options to pay in full or make a partial payment.
If you have any questions about our registration process, please contact Mark Opseth, Executive Director…
